It carefully preserves the memories of the people who once inhabited it: notes, photographs, drawings—everything the fleeing residents, for whatever reason, didn’t take with them to their new home. Mutilated and ailing, it stands at the center of every city, waiting for the moment when a ‘mechanical hand’ will tear it down and turn it into dust. A new house will then be built on the same land, and the cycle will repeat.
